Thierry Henry: Why Arsenal still need four new signings this summer
Thierry Henry feels that Arsenal still need to significantly strengthen their squad this summer
Thierry Henry believes that Arsenal still need to sign at least another four players this summer if they are to close the gap to Chelsea next season.
The Gunners have so far only brought in Petr Cech from Chelsea as Arsene Wenger aims to transform his side into genuine title contenders next season.
Arsenal have been linked with transfer deals for a host of players in recent weeks, including swoops for the likes of Karim Benzema, Gonazlo Higuain and Arturo Vidal.
And former Arsenal striker Henry feels that the north London side are still a considerable distance behind Chelsea in terms of strength of squad.
Henry told Sky Sports: “I still think they need four players to get closer to Chelsea.
“I compare it to my generation – I knew, for example, when I first arrived at Arsenal that if I was not performing after an hour, Dennis Bergkamp was on the bench sometimes or Kanu or Sylvain Wiltord or Davor Suker.
“Whoever it was, I knew I had an hour to perform.”
Arsenal are set to take on Everton in Saturday’s Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore before returning to England.
The Gunners play Chelsea in the Community Shield and then kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United.
