Three reasons why Everton defender John Stones would be a good signing for Manchester United this summer
Having made his international debut last year before the lead up to the 2014 World Cup, John Stones has already gained attention from the top Premier League clubs. With manager Louis Van Gaal looking to strengthen his defence, Stones could be an ideal candidate for the club. Chelsea have expressed an interest in the 21-yeat-old, however, his chances to play first-team football are marginally higher at Old Trafford than it would be if he signed for league champions Chelsea.
Stones has improved year-on-year at Everton and has became a regular player in the first-team. Despite a faltering start to the beginning of last season, he has grown from strength-to-strength. According to reports, Everton have already dismissed a £20m fee for the youngster, and have insisted they would not sell for less than £40m. United might have to raid the banks in order to get the up and coming English star. However, he would certainly be a strong improvement to Manchester United’s defence, something United lacked in last season.
Ability and age
While Stones may appear on the young side, he has the skill set and age to become one of the best defenders from the current batch of Premier League players. He has developed his game at Everton and could succeed if he moved to another English club. It has been reported that he still has a lot to learn, however, working under the likes of Van Gaal could move him forward quickly. With United facing a string of injuries to their backline, he could be the ray of light to many Manchester United fans.
