Summer signings

Having finished seventh under David Moyes and fourth last season with Louis van Gaal at the helm, United fans were ultimately left craving more. Van Gaal has already brought in Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian so far this summer. These players have slotted into United’s weakest areas from last season. It is clear that the Red Devils mean business and are targeting the Premier League title. Morgan Schneiderlin has already showed what he can bring to the role of defensive midfielder through his pre-season performance against Club America. What United have lacked in the past two seasons is the fear factor at Old Trafford from when Sir Alex Ferguson was manager. If Van Gaal and his new recruits can bring that back, they are sure to be title contenders next season.

Quality squad

United where plagued by injuries last season. What was particularly notable was that whenever Michael Carrick was injured, United struggled. He became the heart of their midfield. Bringing in the likes of Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger has reduced this problem. They now have versatility in their team. Daley Blind has shown he can be a dominant centre-half, but can also play at left-back and as defensive midfielder. Darmian has filled the gap at full-back and Depay has shown great wing play. However, United are not finished in the transfer window. Van Gaal is likely to bring in another striker, an area that has been left open by the departures of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie. United have clearly addressed their problems from last season and look to still develop and strengthen their squad before the end of the summer transfer window. This itself can be a main reason as to why they can win the Premier League.

United are clearly no strangers to winning Premier League titles. They won the top flight 13 times and the FA Cup five times during the Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford. Their most recent triumph came back in 2013 before Ferguson’s retirement, and with Van Gaal adapting his own style to United, it is just a matter of time before trophies are on their way back to Old Trafford.
