Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update on De Gea
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says David De Gea and Antonio Valencia are sidelined with minor injuries
Louis van Gaal says Real Madrid target David De Gea is suffering from a minor injury after the goalkeeper missed Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders.
The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to 10-time European champions Real Madrid throughout the summer transfer window.
However, De Gea’s touted move to The Bernabeu has failed to materialise and Los Blancos have already signed Kiko Casilla from Espanyol in a deal which could end their interest in the United man.
Speaking to the media following his side’s 1-0 win in their opening pre-season tour outing, Van Gaal explained the 24-year-old shot stopper’s absence.
“David De Gea and Antonio Valencia were injured, minor injuries, but we cannot take any risks,” Van Gaal said.
On Marouane Fellaini, Van Gaal added: “Marouane Fellaini is suspended for the first three [Premier League] matches so he has a longer time to prepare himself and I need to see other players.”
De Gea was named the fans’s and players’s player of the year after the shot stopper impressed as the Red Devils sealed a return to the Champions League courtesy of a fourth-place finish.
Van Gaal’s side face Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League game of the 2015/16 campaign.
