Wayne Rooney hails ‘fantastic’ Man United new-boy Memphis Depay

Wayne Rooney is confident that Memphis Depay will adapt to life at Manchester United with ease next season

Wayne Rooney is confident that the “fantastic” Memphis Depay will adapt to life at Manchester United with ease and is looking forward to lining up with the Netherlands winger this season.

The Red Devils completed a deal to sign the Netherlands international earlier this summer and the 21-year-old has been getting to grips with life at the club during United’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Rooney has been impressed by what he has seen from Depay since his arrival at the club and is expecting the attacker to make a name for himself in the Premier League next term.

United captain Rooney told MUTV: “It’s still early days [for us playing together] but obviously Memphis is a fantastic talent.

“We’re still working on things in training to try to get better together and get a better understanding of each other’s games which is important.”

He added: “I feel we have the right squad in terms of hoping to be successful in the new season and I think it’s an exciting time for the team.”

Depay scored his first United goal in last week’s 3-1 pre-season victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.

Depay is one of four new arrivals at Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils having also signed Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin in recent weeks.
