Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update ahead of tour

Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck will both miss Arsenal's pre-season trip to Singapore, Arsene Wenger confirms

Arsene Wenger has revealed that both Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez will miss Arsenal’s pre-season trip to Singapore.

The Gunners are set to jet off to Singapore to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy and Wenger has confirmed the provisional squad for the pre-season trip.

Sanchez is set to miss out after being given an extended holiday following his involvement in Chile’s Copa America triumph this month. He will report back to the club on 3 August.

Welbeck, meanwhile, has not fully recovered from the injury problem that forced him to miss the end of last season. However, Calum Chambers has cut his holiday short to be involved in the tour.

New signing Petr Cech will also be involved.

Tomas Rosicky and David Ospina will both also miss the trip to Singapore, with Stoke City and Everton also competing in the Asia Trophy.

Speaking to Arsenal’s website, Wenger said: “Calum has decided to shorten his holiday and come back on Friday. He didn’t play in the under-21s and needs preparations.

“Welbeck isn’t completely recovered from the problem he had [at the end of last season]. He’s not back in full training so he will stay behind.

“Rosicky will stay back because he got a small injury at his last game against Iceland with Czech Republic.

“Ospina is on holiday until July 27 and Alexis is on holiday until August 3. Serge Gnabry is on holiday after playing with the under-21s. He’s back on July 20.”
