Arsenal 0 Liverpool 0: We were outstanding, says Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says the Reds were unlucky not to beat Arsenal after two good first-half chances
Brendan Rodgers felt his outstanding Liverpool side deserved three points after a battling stalemate with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
The Reds had chances to break the deadlock in the first half as Arsenal fielded a new-look centre-half partnership of Calum Chambers and Gabriel Paulista.
Overall we kept a good clean sheet but disappointed we didn’t win. It is about keeping really well organised
However, summer signing Petr Cech denied Christian Benteke from close range before the 33-year-old shot stopper parried Philippe Coutinho’s effort onto the woodwork.
Arsenal had a first-half goal from Aaron Ramsey ruled out for offside and the Gunners chances to score in the second half but couldn’t find a way past Simon Mignolet.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Liverpool manager Rodgers was pleased with his side’s performance, highlighting Cech’s contribution to keep Arsenal in the game.
“I thought we were outstanding, we showed everything. You heard Petr Cech getting a round of appluase for the saves he made,” Rodgers said.
“Overall we kept a good clean sheet but disappointed we didn’t win. It is about keeping really well organised.
“Both goalkeepers made good saves. A really good clean sheet against a top team. We saw how our team is growing. Nothing to add on any transfers.”
Liverpool moved up to third place in the Premier League table after a three-game unbeaten run.
The Reds have conceded a goal in the top-flight so far this season.
