Arsenal lack winning mentality, claims Ian Wright
Arsenal legend Ian Wright says the Gunners are too concerned with the public image
Ian Wright says Arsenal still lack a winning mentality.
The Gunners were among the favourites to win the Premier League title this season after Arsene Wenger lured four-time winner Petr Cech to The Emirates in an £11m deal from Chelsea last month.
The only thing Arsenal seemed to believe about themselves was publicity
However, the FA Cup holders were beaten 2-0 by West Ham United in their Premier League opener in north London on Sunday afternoon.
And former Arsenal striker Wright suggested that the Gunners were too concerned with their image on social media rather than their attitude on the pitch.
Wright told The Sun: “What worried me was the same old problem – the apparent lack of a winning mentality.”
“The only thing Arsenal seemed to believe about themselves was publicity. And that wins you nothing.”
The Gunners suffered a defeat in their first Premier League game of the season after Cheikhou Kouyate broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute before Mauro Zarate doubled the Hammers’s lead in the second half.
Arsenal already trail Manchester United by three points, whilst Arsene Wenger’s men were unable to capitalise on Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
