Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger discusses Karim Benzema link
Arsene Wenger moves to play down talk of Arsenal making a summer bid to sign Karim Benzema from Real Madrid
Arsene Wenger has moved to pour cold water on reports that Arsenal are planning a summer transfer bid to bring Karim Benzema to The Emirates from Real Madrid.
The north London side have been heavily linked with a big-money move for the France international in recent weeks as Wenger considers bolstering his attacking options at The Emirates.
Reports in Spain have suggester that Wenger has set aside a significant transfer budget for the potential purchase of the 27-year-old forward.
However, the Gunners boss moved to play down the speculation when addressing the media following his side’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday afternoon.
Asked about the reports linking Arsenal with a move for Benzema, Wenger told his post match news conference: “No, nothing is happening. Honestly no.
“I don’t know who brings that up. Is it Spanish media or English media? I don’t know.”
Arsenal, who finished third and won the FA Cup last season, kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United next weekend.
