Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger reveals ‘specific targets’
Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are working with a list of 'specific' targets ahead of transfer deadline day
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal have a list of “specific” transfer targets as the summer deadline approaches.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of players over the last few weeks as Wenger looks to bolster his squad at Emirates Stadium ahead of the close of the transfer window next week.
You have specific targets and then another becomes available because of something else
Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani are among the big-name stars to have been linked with moves to the north London club as Wenger bids to guide his team to their first Premier League title since 2004.
And Wenger has lifted the lid on how he and club officials are working around the clock to try and push through deals for the players they are after.
“I’m available 24 hours a day and I have a whole team behind me working round the clock,” Wenger told a news conference at Arsenal’s training ground on Thursday morning.
“You have specific targets and then another becomes available because of something else.”
Wenger also admitted that the earlier transfer deadline of 18:00 BST next Tuesday could affect proceedings as the window closes.
He added: “[The earlier deadline] maybe makes it more difficult because before you had until midnight.
“Maybe it was not very comfortable for the Premier League but it was a bit easier then because of the negotiations.
“But people adapt to the timing. On the last day we will be the only ones on the market and not face competition with the other [European clubs].”
