Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger open to ‘exceptional’ signing
Arsene Wenger says that his hunt for a top-quality signing for Arsenal will continue until Tuesday's transfer deadline
Arsene Wenger says that he is open to bolstering his Arsenal squad with the addition of an “exceptional” player before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The Gunners have been one of the Premier League’s least active clubs during the summer window despite the north London side having been linked with a host of players.
Arsenal have so far only recruited Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer as Wenger bids to guide his side to a Premier League title challenge.
The transfer speculation surrounding the Premier League club is likely to gather pace before Tuesday’s 18:00 BST deadline, and Wenger has reassured fans that he is still looking to bolster his side – but only if the right calibre of player becomes available.
“We are open and we are in the transfer market,” said Wenger, speaking at a news conference after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
“If we find an exceptional player in any sector, we will do it.
“At the moment I don’t know if something will happen or not.”
Arsenal moved up to fifth place in the Premier League thanks to their triumph over the Magpies.
