Arsenal transfers: No chance of Karim Benzema deal, says Liverpool legend
Steve McManaman says Arsenal have no chance of signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid this summer
Arsenal have no chance of signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid this summer, according to Liverpool legend Steve McManaman.
The Gunners have been relentlessly linked with a big-money swoop to sign the Real Madrid forward in recent days as Arsene Wenger ponders adding to his attacking options at Emirates Stadium.
Reports from Spain suggest that the north London side could be prepare to splash £45m in an attempt to lure the 27-year-old France international to the Premier League, despite Wenger’s public insistence that there is nothing concrete in the reports.
However, former Real Madrid man McManaman believes that Real Madrid are not likely to be willing to let their main striker leave the club this summer, despite Arsenal’s apparent interest.
McManaman said on BT Sport: “Real Madrid haven’t got [another] centre-forward.
“The president at Real Madrid has taken so much criticism with the fact that he let Casillas go.
“There was absolutely no way on earth he was going to let Sergio Ramos go.
“So to let Benzema go when they haven’t got any centre forwards to replace him, it’s just suicidal.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action this weekend when they travel to Crystal Palace looking to bounce back from their shock opening day defeat by West Ham United at Emirates Stadium last weekend.
