Arsenal transfers: Wenger discuses Benzema reports
Arsene Wenger refuses to be drawn on the speculation linking Arsenal with a transfer bid for Karim Benzema
Arsene Wenger has once again remained coy when quizzed about the speculation linking Arsenal with a transfer bid for Karim Benzema.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a big-money swoop for the France international this summer as Wenger considers bolstering his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
Reports in Spain this week have claimed that Arsenal are ready to part with up to £40m to land the 27-year-old forward.
However, Wenger refused to be drawn on the talk of Arsenal considering a bid for the striker during a news conference on Friday.
Wenger told the media at Arsenal’s training ground on Friday: “I’m very happy with the squad I have. We look to strengthen… But think it’s enough to win title if we develop, don’t stand still.
“The media spoke about this, I never came out on Karim Benzema. I’ve never spoken on Benzema. You do all the thinking about that.”
Benzema scored 15 goals and made 10 assists in 29 La Liga games for Real Madrid last season as they finished behind champions Barcelona.
Arsenal, who finished third and won the FA Cup last season, kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against West Ham United on Sunday.
