Arsenal transfers: Wenger looking to sign an ‘exceptional’ player
Arsene Wenger says that he is only open to adding "exceptional" players to his Arsenal squad this summer
Arsene Wenger insists that he is still open to the idea of bolstering his Arsenal squad with an “exceptional” player this summer.
The Gunners have already brought in Petr Cech from Chelsea as the Frenchman added some experience to his defensive options at Emirates Stadium.
However, the north London club continue to be linked with a host of other players as the summer transfer window reaches its climax.
Karim Benzema has been regularly touted as a potential striker signing for the Gunners as Wenger considers bolstering his attacking options ahead of the new season.
And Wenger is still thought to be open to the idea of bringing in another centre-half and defensive midfielder.
However, the Frenchman says that he will only consider bringing in new players should some top talent become available.
Speaking at a news conference at Arsenal’s training ground on Friday morning, Wenger said: “At the moment we do not have Alexis Sanchez, not Danny Welbeck, and when these players come back we feel that we have the needed striking force.
“But we don’t rule out as well, if something exceptional turns up, to do it.”
Arsenal take on West Ham United in their Premier League opener on Sunday.
