Aston Villa 0 Man United 1: Adnan Januzaj ‘feeling good’ after winner
Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj says he is happy to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford
Adnan Januzaj says he is feeling good after the Manchester United winger scored a first-half winner against Aston Villa on Friday night.
The Belgium international was handed a surprise start at Villa Park after having found his first-team opportunities limited under Louis van Gaal.
I’m happy to score for the team and score the winner
And the 20-year-old managed to collect Juan Mata’s brilliant through pass before the United winger slotted his finish past Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
Speaking to Sky Sports following United’s 1-0 win, Januzaj expressed his desire to get his name on the score sheet more regularly this season.
“I was feeling good after scoring a goal,” Januzaj told Sky Sports.
“Obviously, I haven’t had a game for a long time so my match fitness is not good.
“I’m happy to score for the team and score the winner.”
“I hope to get more games in my legs and score more goals,” Januzaj added.
The former Paris Saint-Germain target has been linked with a loan move to Premier League side Sunderland in recent days amid talk of United signing Pedro Rodriguez from Barcelona before the close of the summer transfer window.
However, match-winner Januzaj moved to play down the reports, insisting he is prepared to fight for his place at the 20-time English champions.
“It was only rumours. I am happy here and I am going to fight for my place,” Januzaj said.
