Bastian Schweinsteiger can win Champions League with Man United, says legend
Stefan Effenberg says Bastian Schweinsteiger can help to inspire Manchester United to Champions League glory
Bastian Schweinsteiger can help to inspire Manchester United to Champions League glory, according to former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg.
The 31-year-old opted to leave Bayern to link up with Louis van Gaal’s side this summer as United look to transform themselves into genuine contenders for major silverware.
Schweinsteiger made his Premier League debut as a second-half substitute as United ran out 1-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Satuday afternoon.
And former Bayern Munich star Effenberg feels that the World Cup winner has made a logical step by opting to move to the Old Trafford side.
Effenberg told Kicker: “When you look at it from a sports perspective, it was the right decision for both sides.
“Also Schweinsteiger said that he was taking up a big challenge one more time.
“He moves from one world class club to another club who can win the Champions League.
“You can understand this step and at Bayern everyone is replaceable.”
Schweinsteiger is likely to get his first taste of European action with his new club later this month.
United were drawn against Club Bruges in their Champions League play-off clash on Friday as the Red Devils look to qualify for the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition.
The Red Devils take on Aston Villa in their next game on Friday night.
