Charlie Adam: What striker Tottenham Hotspur should target
Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam believes Tottenham Hotspur should target QPR striker Charlie Austin this summer
Charlie Adam has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur should move to sign Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin in the summer transfer window.
The north London side are struggling up front after Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino had to withdraw Harry Kane midway through the second half of their 2-2 draw with Stoke City due to fatigue on Saturday.
You need those type of players in your team
The White Hart Lane outfit are reportedly on the brink of signing West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino in a touted £15m deal.
However, Potters midfielder Adam, who started on the bench against Spurs at White Hart Lane, believes Austin is the type of striker that could thrive in a Premier League side.
“Should they go for Charlie Austin? Somebody who will score goals and is a box player,” Adam told BBC Sport.
“As a club buying a player, you see his goal on Saturday: a poacher’s goal.
“You need those type of players in your team.”
Austin scored 18 goals in 35 Premier League games in his first season in the English top-flight last term.
The striker has been the subject of injury concerns after he failed a medical at Hull City prior to his move to QPR.
And Stoke midfielder Adam rubbished talk of Austin’s injury problems.
Adam added: “You look at his stats over the last few years. He played 35 games last year. He is fit and available.”
