Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho wants left-back signing
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits the Blues need to sign a new left-back to help out Cesar Azpilicueta
Jose Mourinho says Chelsea need to sign a left-back to bolster their defensive options before the start of the season.
The Blues manager has just versatile defender Cesar Azpilicueta to call upon at left-back following the departure of England legend Ashley Cole last summer.
We only have Azpilicueta. We need a left-back. We all know that
Mourinho has been linked with a move for England and Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose in recent weeks, as well as Augsburg youngster Baba Rahman.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference on Friday afternoon, the Chelsea manager revealed his board were in agreement over the need for a left-back.
“It is something that is easy to agree between all of us in the club.
“It is not a situation where the manager says one thing and the board says another thing. It is a basic thing. We only have Azpilicueta. We need a left-back. We all know that.
“My feeling is that we’re going to have one. There is not only one good left-back in the football world. There are different options. We will decide when it is possible to decide.”
The Chelsea manager did rule out signing another striker before the summer transfer window shuts next month despite Diego Costa’s continued hamstring problems.
“No. We bought Falcao because we know we need three for protection for these situations. Three is a perfect number,” Mourinho added.
The west London start the defence of their Premier League title with a clash against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Mourinho has signed Radamel Falcoa and Asmir Begovic in the summer transfer window.
