Dietmar Hamann: Christian Benteke exactly the player Liverpool needed
Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann runs rule over Reds signing Christian Benteke after his goal-scoring Anfield debut
Dietmar Hamann says Christian Benteke is exactly the type of player Liverpool needed to sign.
The Belgium international netted a fortuitous first Liverpool goal in a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield on Monday night after he beat Artur Boruc at full-stretch despite Philippe Coutinho standing in an offside position.
Benteke could have added a second in the closing moments of his first Anfield appearance after he was found by Nathaniel Clyne, but the £32.5m summer signing’s strike hit the crossbar.
And former Reds midfielder Hamann, who was part of Liverpool’s Champions League-winning side in 2005, is pleased with a great start to the season for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
Great start for BR and LFC. 2 clean sheets and 6 points. Couldn't have asked for more, Benteke exactly the player the club needed.

Benteke moved to Liverpool from Aston Villa in a £32.5m deal in the summer transfer window.
The Belgian striker scored 13 times in 28 Premier League games for Villa last season.
Liverpool make the trip to top-four rivals Arsenal next Monday.
