Former Liverpool man Don Hutchinson questions why John Stones would join Chelsea ahead of Man United

Don Hutchinson has questioned why Everton defender John Stones would rather join Chelsea ahead of Manchester United.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and United boss Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen their defensive options.

Stones has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most-promising centre-halves over the past two seasons, scoring one goal in 45 top-flight games for the Toffees.

And former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Hutchinson reckons Mourinho is out-of-touch if he believes Stones will pick the defending champions over United, or staying at Everton.

Stones was a key part of Matinez’s Everton defence last season as the centre-half scored one goal in 28 games in all competitions last season.

The Toffees youngster has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal after he moved to Everton from Barnsley in a £3m deal in 2013.
