Ex-Liverpool man laughs off Christian Benteke-Mario Balotelli comparisons
David Thompson says Liverpool signing Christian Benteke has already contributed more than Mario Balotelli
Christian Benteke did more in the first half of Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth than Mario Balotelli has done in his Liverpool career, according to David Thompson.
The Belgium international scored on his first appearance at Anfield after the towering striker prodded Jordan Henderson’s cross past Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc in the first half.
Benteke won 10 aerial duals, had three attempts on Bournemouth’s goal, which included a strike that hit the crossbar, and completed 21 successful passes on Monday night.
And former Liverpool midfielder Thompson claimed Benteke has already overshadowed Balotelli’s entire body of work at the Merseyside club over the past 12 months.

Balotelli has scored just one Premier League goal since his £16m move to Liverpool from AC Milan last summer.
Benteke, meanwhile, became the Reds’s second most-expensive signing after he made the £32.5m switch to Liverpool from Aston Villa.
Brendan Rodgers’s side make the trip to Arsenal in their next Premier League game.
