Gary Lineker: Chelsea will retain Premier League title
Tottenham legend Gary Lineker is tipping Chelsea to win the Premier League title despite their rivals strengthening
Gary Lineker is backing Chelsea to defend their Premier League title this season.
Jose Mourinho lost to an Arsene Wenger side for the first time in 14 games on Sunday afternoon after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored Arsenal’s winner in a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield.
The Blues manager has signed Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan from Monaco, whilst he snapped up Asmir Begovic in an £8m deal from Stoke City following Petr Cech’s departure.
And Lineker is still backing Mourinho’s men to win a fifth Premier League crown despite the uninspiring signings at Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
“For the Premier League, I’ll probably go for Chelsea again. They’ve strengthened a bit and they were so dominant last season,” Lineker said in an exclusive British Airways Q&A.
“I’ve got a feeling for Manchester United for the FA Cup, and my old club Spurs for the League Cup – it’s about time they won something.”
Chelsea eased to the Premier League crown last season after Mourinho’s side finished 11 points clear of second-placed Manchester City.
The west London side also won the League Cup after a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley before they crashed out of the Champions League in the last eight.
