Gary Neville explains signings Man United must make before deadline
Gary Neville says Manchester United must target a goalkeeper and a centre-forward before the transfer deadline
Gary Neville says Manchester United need to sign a goalkeeper and a centre-forward before the summer transfer window shuts on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by Swansea City at Liberty Stadium on Sunday afternoon, highlighting Louis van Gaal’s need to strengthen his squad.
If [Javier] Hernandez leaves, they’ve got one striker. I’m not classing Fellaini as a striker. They’ve got one striker in Wayne Rooney

The 20-time English champions have already signed midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin, defender Matteo Darmian and shot stopper Sergio Romero.
However, former United right-back Neville believes there are still areas of the squad that Van Gaal needs to reinforce if the Red Devils are going to have a successful season.
“They won’t just wake up and think, ‘Oh, we’ve lost a game, we’re going to panic and sign four players’ – they’ve probably always wanted to bring in players – but watching them, they need players,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“They need to sort the goalkeeping situation out. That is a big problem. If De Gea leaves and they don’t get another goalkeeper in…
“Manchester United have had incredible experience over the last 25 years. They’ve had Van der Sar, Schmeichel and, when they’ve not been able to fix that position down, it’s caused problems.
“Centre-forward, goalkeeper – both ends of the pitch.
“If [Javier] Hernandez leaves, they’ve got one striker. I’m not classing Fellaini as a striker. They’ve got one striker in Wayne Rooney.
“They’ve got the goalkeeper Romero and I said before the game the jury’s out; I think today it’s even more out.”
United supporters are facing an anxious wait to see if David De Gea will remain at Old Trafford before the end of the summer transfer window.
