Harry Redknapp: Who Tottenham need to sign to finish in the top four
Harry Redknapp says Tottenham need at least two more signings if they are to challenge for a top-four spot
Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham Hotspur are in need of another striker and midfielder if they are to launch a serious bid for Champions League qualification this season.
Spurs are looking to build on last season’s fifth-placed finish in the top flight as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.
However, former Lilywhites boss Redknapp feels that the north London side are still in need of significant reinforcements if they are to challenge for a top-four spot this season.
Redknapp wrote on Kicca: “I am hoping Spurs can get back into the top four, but it will be tough. They’re probably a couple of players short of mounting a serious challenge to get in that top four.
“He needs another frontman and another top midfielder for sure. He’s got some good kids in the midfield, but they are young so I think he needs real outstanding, experienced midfielder in there and he certainly needs another frontman, he cannot rely on just Harry Kane to score all the goals.
“But I am a big fan of the manager and he’ll do well if he gets the backing he needs, then just like Liverpool, they’ll have their sights set on the top four.”
The former Spurs manager also stated his belief that there will be a six-way battle for Champions League qualification ahead of a competitive campaign.
The ex-Queens Park Rangers manager continued: “I think it will be really tight this year, I am not sitting on the fence, there are six teams that will push for those Champions League spots, it will be very tight.”
Tottenham, who were runners up in the League Cup last term, kick off their Premier League campaign with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on the opening day of the season on Saturday afternoon.
