Herrera, Shaw and more: Man United stars reacts to Champions League qualification
Manchester United trio Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling take to Instagram after 4-0 win at Club Brugge
Ander Herrera says he can’t wait for the Champions League group-stage draw after Manchester United sealed their progress thanks to a 4-0 victory over Club Brugge on Thursday night.
United captain Wayne Rooney bagged a 57-minute hat-trick before Spanish midfielder Herrera added a fourth to secure a 7-1 aggregate play-off win against the Belgian side.
And Herrera, who played in the competition with Athletic Bilbao before his move to Old Trafford, couldn’t disguise his delight to see United book their place in Thursday’s group-stage draw.
Herrera wrote: “Looking forward to the draw tomorrow, we are now where this club deserves to be . Very happy”
United left-back Luke Shaw is getting to grips with the competition after the 19-year-old made his first Champions League appearances against Brugge, but the England teenager knows enough to know the Red Devils belong in the competition.
Shaw posted: “Back where we belong, congratulations to @waynerooney on his hatrick tonight! Thanks to the travelling fans, unreal like always!”
Chis Smalling helped United keep their fourth clean sheet in five games in all competitions, and the United centre-half paid tribute to his captain Rooney after the 29-year-old’s hat-trick.
Smalling uploaded: “Great team performance tonight and great goals by the main man @waynerooney 🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴 @manchesterunited #mufc”
