Ian Wright: Arsenal have a lot of work to do to challenge for title

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says summer signing Petr Cech proved his worth in a 0-0 draw with Liverpool

Ian Wright says Arsenal have a lot of work to do to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners played out an entertaining goalless draw with Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

We have to face the fact that Arsenal still have a lot of work to do to be in with any real chance of challenging for the title this season

Arsenal have collected just four points from nine games after a 2-0 defeat by West Ham United and a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

And former Arsenal striker Wright isn’t impressed with the north London side’s start to the Premier League campaign.

“I made the call on the importance of Petr Cech in massive games like this,” Wright told BreatheSport. “He was my man of the match and kept Arsenal in the game.

“We have to face the fact that Arsenal still have a lot of work to do to be in with any real chance of challenging for the title this season.”

Arsenal make the trip to Newcastle United in their next Premier League game at St James’s Park on Saturday.

The Gunners have only signed Cech in an £11m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this summer.
