Jose Mourinho gives injury update on Chelsea star Diego Costa
Jose Mourinho admits his concerns about Chelsea striker Diego Costa's recent fitness struggles
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is “concerned” about Diego Costa’s injury struggles ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Spain international was left out of the Chelsea side to face Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday after picking up a hamstring injury during pre-season.
It is not a good feeling for him, it is not a good feeling for me
Chelsea, who host Fiorentina in their final pre-season game on Wednesday, kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Swansea City on Saturday, and Mourinho has revealed that the forward is likely to miss the game due to the problem.
Mourinho told talkSPORT: “I have to be honest and say that it is a bit of a concern.
“A player that didn’t finish the season and doesn’t start the season obviously doesn’t make make me happy.
“The boy is trying hard but he has a problem against Barcelona, the next day the scans show there is no injury so the next day he trains but the next day he is not comfortable 24 hours before the game we don’t know if he plays or doesn’t play.
“It is not a good feeling for him, it is not a good feeling for me.”
Costa was Chelsea’s top scorer last season after netting 20 Premier League goals but missed the latter stages of the 2014-15 campaign due to a hamstring injury.
He helped Chelsea beat Tottenham in March to win the League Cup.
The Brazilian-born forward joined the Blues from Atletico Madrid last summer after helping the Spanish side win La Liga and reach the Champions League final.
