Jose Mourinho on Diego Costa fitness ahead of Chelsea v Swansea
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he trusts Diego Costa after he named the striker in his starting line-up
Jose Mourinho says he trusts Diego Costa to be honest about his fitness after the Chelsea manager named the strike in his starting line-up against Swansea City.
The Blues forward missed their Community Shield defeat and a pre-season loss to Fiorentina mid-week after he suffered a reoccurrence of his hamstring issue.
Mourinho insisted he was in the dark on Costa’s fitness in his pre-match media conference on Friday afternoon.
But the Blues boss spoke about his decision to include the injury doubt for their opening Premier League game of the season.
Asked if Costa is 100 per cent fit, Mourinho replied:
“Ask me after the match! I have to trust the player more than anyone else.
“The player says he feels good and that he wants to play and he doesn’t see a reason not to play. I obviously want my best players to play.”
Costa was Chelsea’s top goal-scorer last season after netting 20 Premier League goals but missed the latter stages of the 2014-15 campaign due to a hamstring injury.
