Jose Mourinho reveals Chelsea new boy to start against Fiorentina
Jose Mourinho says Radamel Falcao will play from the start during Chelsea's pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Wednesday
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Radamel Falcao will start Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Wednesday as Diego Costa continues to nurse a hamstring injury.
Falcao was a half-time substitute at Wembley as the Blues slumped to a 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday afternoon.
If we don’t have Diego I am happy with the strikers I have
Mourinho revealed before the game that Costa has been struggling with a hamstring issue after the Spain international sat out Sunday’s loss to the Gunners.
And the Chelsea manager, whose side conclude their pre-season preparations against the Serie A side at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, confirmed that loan signing Falcao would feature from the start in west London.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Sunday at Wembley, Mourinho said: “Two days ago he [Costa] was ready to play.
“When I told you two days ago he was ready to play he was ready to play. He trained normally on Friday and yesterday at the end of the training session he said he was not feeling good.
“But Falcao will have had a bit more football, he will play against Fiorentina from the start.
“We have Loic Remy too, so if we don’t have Diego I am happy with the strikers I have.”
Costa was Chelsea’s top scorer last season after netting 20 Premier League goals but missed the latter stages of the 2014-15 campaign due to a hamstring injury.
The Brazilian-born forward joined the Blues from Atletico Madrid last summer after helping the Spanish side win La Liga and reach the Champions League final.
