Juan Mata heaps praise on Ander Herrera after Man United win

Juan Mata expressed his delight at seeing Ander Herrera find the net in Manchester United’s Champions League win over Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

Herrera netted in the second half with a cool finish to add to Wayne Rooney’s hat-trick and secure a thumping 4-0 win in Belgium on the night.

The win ensured that United cruised through to the group stage of this season’s Champions League, and Mata was delighted to see his compatriot find the net during the tie.

Mata told MUTV: “He [Herrera] played a very good game and scored a great goal. Obviously we understand each other very well on and off the pitch and I’m very happy as well.”

The Spanish playmaker was also full of praise for hat-trick hero Rooney after the England international’s dazzling display during the clash.

He continued: “I’m very happy for him because he was training well.

“He did what he knows how to do – to score goals and to play for the team, running for the team-mates and it was good that we could give him the assists.

“He was looking for a goal, he got three, and he could have scored more. I’m very happy for him. He deserves it.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action when they take on Swansea City this weekend following their goalless draw with Newcastle in their last outing.

The Red Devils were pitted with PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg in Champions League Group B in Thursday’s draw.
