Juan Mata: Man United showing consistency as a team
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata praises the Red Devils for securing successive Premier League wins
Juan Mata has praised Manchester United’s consistency after notching up back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
The Red Devils midfielder teed up Adnan Januzaj to score a 29th-minute winner for the away side in a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Friday night.
We are showing consistency as a team; we are not giving away many chances to our rivals, which is always positive
Louis van Gaal’s side have secured successive clean sheets despite calls for the United manager to sign a world-class defender in the summer transfer window.
And Mata, who started on the right wing against Villa, felt United played some good football in spells and have made improvements defensively.
“Our second win in two games in the Premier League, in a tough stadium like Villa Park, leaves the team in a very good position and we are looking forward to keep this winning streak,” Mata wrote on his blog, One Hour Behind.
“Playing on Friday was a bit weird but, as I said after the match, the good score allowed us to have a quiet weekend watching the rest of the games. During the 90 minutes we scored a nice goal and had spells of good football that we want to maintain this season.
“Basically, I think we are showing consistency as a team; we are not giving away many chances to our rivals, which is always positive. Obviously we know we have to get better, but the most important thing now is to get good results that help the team get started in this long season.”
The Red Devils face Club Brugge in the first leg of their Champions League play-off at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The 20-time English champions welcome Steve McClaren’s Newcastle United side to the Theatre of Dreams in their next Premier League outing on Saturday afternoon.
Mata moved to United from Chelsea in a £37.1m deal in January 2013.
