Kurt Zouma ignoring Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal
Kurt Zouma says Chelsea's loss to Arsenal will have no bearing on the Premier League season to come
Kurt Zouma insists that Chelsea’s defeat by Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield clash at Wembley will have no impact on the season to come.
The Blues slumped to a 1-0 loss to their London rivals on Sunday afternoon as Arsene Wenger claimed his first triumph over Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the only goal of the game in the first half as Petr Cech featured against his former employers for the first time and lifted his third pre-season trophy since joining Arsenal last month.
However, Chelsea defender Zouma does not expect the result to have any impact on the Blues’ title defence ahead of the forthcoming 2015-16 campaign.
Zouma is quoted as saying by Goal: “There’s no impact for the season, they won and we were unlucky. Congratulations to them.
“We are happy to play a game in the Premier League. We lost the Community Shield, we were unlucky but we have to think about [the league].
“Every team can be champion, we want to be champion, we have to defend our title. We have a good squad and a good team. Mentally we are ready for that.”
The 20-year-old started seven Premier League games for Chelsea last season as they won the top-flight title ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.
The Blues also lifted the League Cup in Mourinho’s second season back in west London.
