Liverpool 1 Bournemouth 0: Player ratings as Benteke nets winner

Player ratings as Liverpool striker Christian Benteke scores his first goal for the Reds in a 1-0 win at Anfield

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet Was not equal to Elphick’s shot in the first five minutes of the game as he could have got a hand to it. He was rarely pressed in the second half and redeemed himself for the home side. 6/10

Nathaniel Clyne Kept making runs down the wing and made spectacular crosses throughout the game causing newly-promoted side Bournemouth a lot of problems. 7

Martin Skrtel A great defensive player for Liverpool as he controls the danger in the penalty area. It is understandable why Liverpool fans rate them as their central defender. 6

Dejan Lovren A controversial decision went his way in the fifth minute of the game as he reacted to the challenge from Elphick. Seemed to fade away the rest of the game. 4

Joe Gomez Did well moving forward and making space to create chances for Liverpool. 6

James Milner Progressed from last weeks game against Stoke as he played well in the midfield with good passing accuracy. Missed a great chance in the second half. 7

Jordan Henderson Captaincy seems to suit Henderson as he claimed the assist for the first goal. He was taken off in the 51st minute due to injury. He was clapped off by the Liverpool fans. 6

Phillipe Coutinho Missed a great chance in the first half as he should have made it 2-0 to Liverpool. Was offside for the first goal. He gave Liverpool the three points last week, but failed to live up to expectations this week. 5

Adam Lallana Should have remained calm and careful. However, he was let off the hook with some needless challenges. Was not involved much in the game. 4

Jordan Ibe The teenager once again showed that he is one to watch for the future before being substituted. 7

Christian Benteke (Man of the match) Fantastic goal scored for his first of the season at Anfield. Benteke showed what he can offer Liverpool this season. Had plenty of chances throughout the game. 8

Bournemouth

Artur Boruc Was not at fault for the first goal. With the new offside rule it is unclear whether the goal should have stood as Coutinho looked to make a play for the ball. 6

Simon Francis Tried to create chances for his teammates but struggled to find his teammates in the box. 5

Tommy Elphick Unfortunately for the Bournemouth captain his goal was controversially disallowed which would have seen Bournemouth 1-0 up. Kept pressing forward throughout the game and tried to keep his team motivated. He was Bournemouth’s ray of light throughout the game. 6

Steve Cook It was clear to see that Elphick and Cook’s partnership was one of the main reasons as to why Bournemouth were promoted last season. Nothing the defence could do for Liverpool’s goal. However, he panicked in the dying minutes of the game and gave away a free-kick. 5

Charlie Daniels Unlike Francis he appeared to not be in the game on the wing as he struggled to get past Liverpool’s defence. However, he did manage to block a shot from Benteke in the second half. 5

Matt Ritchie Bournemouth’s defence were the main reason they managed to keep the score at 1-0 where the defence lost composure. Booked in the second half, however, the challenge was unneeded. 3

Eunan O’Kane Was booked early in the first half for a needless challenge. Struggling against Premier League teams. 4

Ryan Surman Did marginally better than his midfield partner O’Kane. Defended well and tracked back to ensure his team did not lose by more. 5

Max Gradel The wing play for Bournemouth appears to be an issue for the club. He was subbed ten minutes before the end of the game. Did not make an impact. 4

Callum Wilson Struggled pressing Liverpool throughout the match. Bournemouth waere unlucky in the first half but were lacking in the second. 4

Joshua King Formation was switched at the start of the second half and Bournemouth, as well as King, impressed after the interval. If he can improve this for throughout the game, Bournemouth should get on the score sheet. Played well until being subbed for Tomlin. 5

Substitutes

Lee Tomlin Booked in the 77th minute. Bournemouth may need to watch their bookings over the season. Won a corner with five minutes to go. 4
