Liverpool transfers: Reds suffer Asier Illarramendi setback
Liverpool target Asier Illarramendi looks to be on the verge of completing a return to Real Sociedad
Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their hunt to sign Asier Illarramendi as the midfielder reportedly edges closer to a return to Real Sociedad from Real Madrid.
David Moyes appears close to getting one over his former rivals Liverpool after the Merseyside outfit and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old.
Illarramendi has found his first-team opportunities limited at Real Madrid in recent seasons, struggling to dislodge Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in midfield.
And the Spain international looks to be nearing a return to Sociedad, whom he made 56 appearances in all competitions for before his move in 2013.
Speaking to the media, Sociedad midfielder Ruben Pardo said on his potential new team-mate: “The arrival of Asier Illarramendi could help us in many ways. He has high quality.”
Illarramendi has won the Champions League, the Copa del Rey, Super Cup and Fifa World Club Cup during a two-year stay at The Bernabeu.
Liverpool have already signed eight players in the summer transfer window, including Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.
