Man City 3 Chelsea 0: Player ratings as Sergio Aguero sparkles

Player ratings as Manchester City ease to a 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City

Joe Hart Unlike his opposition goalkeeper, Hart had little to deal with but was challenged more as the game developed. Did well under pressure and made some great saves in the second half. 7/10

Bacary Sagna Defended well but seemed to go missing in the second half. 5

Aleksandar Kolarov Pressed forward and had chances on goal. Vastly improved in his attacking play. His crosses were sublime all afternoon. 7

Eliaqium Mangala Should have made it 2-0 before the end of the first half. City played exceptional football and this will be a match remembered which Mangala will be a apart of. 6

Vincent Kompany Was booked for an unnecessary tackle against Costa so soon after the first goal was scored. Redeemed himself in the second half with a goal scored from a set-piece. 7

Raheem Sterling The 19-year-old proved why City took the chance and made him a summer signing in the transfer window. Did exceptionally well down the wing for his new club. 7

David Silva Lived up to his playmaker name within the Man City squad. 7

Yaya Toure His intricate play was nothing short of incredible to watch throughout the game. When he was on the ball it was clear he was a fan favourite. Had a chance on goal in the second half but was cleared by the Chelsea defence. 7

Fernandinho Was booked for a nasty challenge in the first half. However City’s midfield played their best and Fernandinho was a focal point in their play and added with a fantastic strike in the 85th minute. 7

Jesus Navas Played well in terms of passing accuracy and had a chance on goal before being substituted in the second half. 6

Sergio Aguero (Man of the match) Aguero kept bursting into the box causing Chelsea’s defence problems all afternoon. It was a superb first goal back at the Etihad for the new season. 8

Substitutes

Samir Nasri Did well in attacking forward toward the goal. 5

Chelsea

Asmir Begovic Had to stop an early attack from Aguero when the Argentinian was one on one with himself. Did well to keep the score 0-0 within the first minute of the game. Kept Chelsea in the match in the opening minutes. Was not to blame for the first goal. 6

Branislav Ivanovic Ivanovic showed why he is picked week on week by Mourinho. He tracked back and saved his team for losing more than three goals to nil. 7

Gary Cahill He had a lucky escape early in the first half when he mistimed a pass to Begovic. His defending was taken into question for City’s first goal. Suffered a nosebleed from a nasty collision with Begovic. 4

John Terry Seemed to have disappeared in the first half and was subbed for the first time in a Premier League match by manager Jose Mourinho. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta The defender was not involved in the match as Ivanovic seemed to be Chelsea’s only defensive player. 3

Cesc Fabregas Did well in the free-kicks to create chances for his team. Did not mark well for City’s second goal. Although, Fabregas remained Chelsea’s ray of hope throughout the game even when they were three goals down. 6

Nemanja Matic He was their main man in the midfield during the first half but for some reason could not get himself back into the game after the break. 6

Willian Did well tracking back and defending his own penalty area. May have been subbed too early. 6

Ramires Had a chance to score in the first half but did not take his chance. He did well pressing forward but to no avail before being taken off the pitch. 5

Eden Hazard It is normally more than likely that Hazard will score when given time in the box. Today did not seem his day and was booked for a challenge on Toure. 6

Diego Costa He showed why he was missed in the previous games. However, he could not find the target as he it the post late on in the match. It was not to be Chelsea’s day. 5
