Man City 3 Chelsea 0: We didn’t deserve to lose, insists Jose Mourinho
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists the Blues were the better side in the second half
Jose Mourinho insisted Chelsea didn’t deserve to lose to Manchester City after the Citizens eased to an emphatic victory over the defending Premier League champions.
The home side edged into a first half lead in the 32nd minute at Etihad Stadium after Sergio Aguero managed to squeeze his way through the Chelsea defence and slot a finish past Asmir Begovic.
At 1-0 Chelsea were the best team for the whole second half
The west London side attempted to rally in the second half but Vincent Kompany powered a header past the Chelsea goalkeeper before Fernandinho added a third in the final 12 minutes.
Speaking to Sky Sports following their defeat, Mourinho was in bullish mood about Chelsea’s performance, particularly in the second half.
“The best team in the first half won the game. The best team in the second half was Chelsea for sure. We had a difficult first half, we didn’t create a lot and our goalkeeper made a few important saves,” Mourinho said.
“Second half everything was different. If the 1-0 was a doubtful result at minute 70, 3-0 is completely fake. At 1-0 Chelsea were the best team for the whole second half.
“They make a change because they feel 1-0 is in danger and we concede a second goal. If 1-1 a different story, their team is in trouble.”
Chelsea have failed to win a Premier League game this season after a 2-2 draw with Swansea City at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
The defending champion are in 16th place ahead of the visit of West Bromwich Albion next weekend.
