Man United deliver latest injury update after Spurs win
Phil Jones has been ruled out for a minimum of three weeks, Manchester United have confirmed
Phil Jones is set to be out of action for a minimum of three weeks with a case of mild thrombosis, Manchester United confirmed after their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The England defender was a regular starter during pre-season but lost his place to Chris Smalling for the Red Devils’ Premier League opener against Spurs at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Smalling and Daley Blind played in the centre of United’s defence as Louis van Gaal’s men secured a 1-0 victory thanks to Kyle Walker’s first-half own goal at Old Trafford.
Now, it has been confirmed that Jones is set to miss at least three weeks as he recovers from the problem, most likely ruling him out of United’s Champions League play-off clash with Club Bruges.
A statement posted on Manchester United’s website after Saturday’s victory at Old Trafford read: “Jones has mild thrombosis and the blood clotting has forced him to be sidelined for the opening of the campaign.
“Consequently, the centre-back is expected to miss the two Champions League play-off ties with Club Brugge.”
United’s next Premier League game is a trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday night.
