Man United transfers: Van Gaal reveals remaining plans for signings
Louis van Gaal says that he is still on the lookout for an attacking player to bring to Manchester United
Louis van Gaal says Manchester United are unlikely to be able to challenge for the Premier League title until they bring in a player with “speed and creativity”.
The Red Devils have been touted by many to be ready to launch a serious bid for the top-flight crown after signing Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero this summer.
Van Gaal is hoping to build on United’s fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last term as he prepares for his second season in charge at Old Trafford.
However, the Dutchman feels that his side still lack an attacking creative player, with Angel di Maria seemingly set to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Van Gaal is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail: “We’re not on schedule to be champions because we need speed and creativity at the front.
“Whether we can win the title [in the next two seasons] is dependable if we can buy players with speed and creativity.
“You shall always be compared with other clubs. Barcelona without Neymar and Messi, their speed and creativity, they have Pedro behind. Bayern Munich: Ribery and Robben. After that they can change with Muller and they also had Shaqiri [now at Inter Milan] at other times.
“Chelsea have Hazard, Willian, Oscar — that is speed and creativity. [Ashley] Young had a great season. [Juan] Mata also. But they don’t have the speed of Hazard or Robben.
“We have to improve our selection in that way.”
United kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.
