Man United transfers: Anthony Martial heads to Manchester ‘to sign contract’
Anthony Martial looks set to become a Manchester United player before Tuesday's transfer deadline
Anthony Martial looks set to become a Manchester United player after the striker was given permission to leave France’s national team to “sign a contract” with the Red Devils.
United have been heavily linked with a bid for the 19-year-old striker in recent days, speculation which gathered pace in the wake of Sunday’s surprise 2-1 loss at Swansea City.
Now, it appears that Louis van Gaal has moved quickly to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford, with the player seemingly set to secure a move to the Premier League outfit from Monaco in the coming hours.
A statement from the French football federation read: “He [Martial] requested from Didier Deschamps permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United.
“Given the exceptional circumstances, the coach has acceded to the request of the player.
The FFF also confirmed that Martial is set to return to France’s training base in Clairefontaine on Tuesday, which suggests that United are hoping to push through a deal in the next few hours.
Sunday’s loss to Swansea left Van Gaal’s men fifth in the Premier League and level on points with Arsenal and Liverpool.
