Man United transfers: David De Gea will leave, says Harry Redknapp
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is tipping David De Gea to leave Manchester United this summer
Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will complete a move to Real Madrid before the end of the transfer window.
The Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal opted to start with Argentina international Sergio Romero against Tottenham Hotspur ahead of De Gea.
If he is desperate to go, I’m sure it’ll happen
The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to Los Blancos, although United have maintained their stance De Gea won’t leave for a cut-price fee.
But former Spurs manager Redknapp believes De Gea will get his move to the five-time European champions if he is desperate to leave the 20-time English champions.
“I think he probably will go,” Redknapp told BT Sport.
“It seems to me that obviously he wants to go back to Real Madrid and play in Spain. If he is desperate to go, I’m sure it’ll happen.”
On whether United will sign another goalkeeper, Redknapp added: “I’m sure there are lots of twists and turns in that situation. Will the bring in another goalkeeper?
“They need a top, top goalkeeper to win a championship. Is Romero good enough to take them to the title?”
The Red Devils are reported to value their player of the year at £25m after having signed the shot stopper in an £18m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper made 37 Premier League appearances during Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.
