Man United transfers: Juan Mata defends David De Gea
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says Real Madrid target David De Gea is remaining professional
Juan Mata has defended his teammate David De Gea amidst widespread claims that the goalkeeper is attempting to force a move away from Old Trafford.
De Gea has been subject to hefty bids from Real Madrid, and speculation about his future has been fuelled by his exclusion from United’s match day squads this season.
Despite Louis van Gaal claiming the 24-year-old won’t play until the transfer deadline has passed, he has been training with the first team and Mata insists that his fellow Spaniard is focused on helping the side.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Mata said: “The truth is he’s relaxed. Anyone that knows him he’s a naturally very relaxed, calm and that’s how he’s dealing with this situation. He’s training really well and being professional as always.”
De Gea moved to Manchester from Real’s rivals Atletico Madrid in 2011 and, was widely acclaimed at United’s star man last term as the side reclaimed a Champions League berth.
The 6ft 4ins stopper has recently forced himself into the Spain line-up since taking over from record appearance maker and former Real skipper Iker Casillas between the sticks.
