Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal discusses Chelsea signing Pedro

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal tackles questions on their interest in Chelsea signing Pedro Rodriguez

Louis van Gaal has played down Manchester United’s former interest in Chelsea signing Pedro Rodriguez.

The Red Devils were thought to be leading the race to sign the Spain international earlier this week after chief-executive Ed Woodward flew out to Barcelona to conclude a deal.

However, Chelsea managed to sign Pedro in a £21.1m deal on Thursday afternoon after United had reportedly pulled out off their proposed transfer for the winger.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Carrington training ground on Friday morning, Van Gaal discussed the Red Devils’s reported interest in Pedro.

The World Cup winner is Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, whilst United have added five new players to their squad.

Pedro won the 2010 World Cup with Spain before he helped La Roja win back-to-back European champions at Euro 2012.

The Spanish winger scored six goals in 35 La Liga appearances last season despite falling down the pecking order under manager Luis Enrique at Camp Nou.
