Man United transfers: Nicolas Gaitan urged to snub Red Devils
Nicolas Gaitan is urged to turn down a move to Manchester United by his Benfica team-mate Jonas
Nicolas Gaitan has been urged to turn down a possible transfer to Manchester United this summer and stay at Benfica by his team-mate Jonas.
Gaitan has long been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, and the speculation linking him with a big-money move to the English club has once again gathered pace during the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has also reportedly attracted interest from Spanish sides Atletico Madrid and Valencia this summer as his future at Benfica continues to be a source of speculation.
However, Benfica star Jonas is desperate to see his team-mate commit his future to the Portuguese club and stay beyond the summer transfer window.
Jonas told Record: “He is a very great player and everyone knows the quality that Nico has.
“He has been at Benfica for many years, knows every corner of the club and is happy.
“We know there are clubs that are interested in signing him but, for me in particular, I would love it if he stays because he provides a lot of assists. Not just for me, but also for Lima.
“He is a player who gives a lot to the team with his determination and quality.”
Gaitan scored four goals in 27 league appearances for Benfica last season and also featured five times in the Champions League for the Portuguese side.
His agent recently revealed that Manchester United were interested in signing his client this summer.
