Man United transfers: Nicolas Otamendi to join Man City, says expert

Guillem Balague confirms Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi is set to join Manchester City ahead of Manchester United

Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi is set to join Manchester City, according to La Liga expert Guillem Balague.

The Red Devils were thought to be leading the race to sign the Argentina international as Louis van Gaal sought to strengthen his defensive options at Old Trafford.

However, the Citizens appear to have stolen a march on their bitter derby rivals after reportedly agreeing a €40m deal with Valencia for the highly-rated centre-half.

And Spanish football expert Balague confirmed that the South American is set to join the Citizens, with talk of Eliaquim Mangala moving to Los Che on loan.

However, Balague retweeted his media colleague Daniel Taylor on Monday morning to suggest that Mangala may not move to Valencia on a season-long loan.

Van Gaal was dealt a further blow on Monday after Real Madrid confirmed that Sergio Ramos has signed a new five-year deal with the 10-time European champions.
