Man United transfers: Rio Ferdinand tips David De Gea to leave
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says he expects David De Gea to leave Old Trafford this summer
Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is likely to leave Old Trafford for Real Madrid.
The club’s player of the year didn’t face Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season as Argentina international Sergio Romero kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Spurs.
The Red Devils have fended off interest from Real Madrid so far this summer, but Los Blancos are expected to increase their £25m offer for the 24-year-old shot stopper.
Speaking to BT Sport after United manager Louis van Gaal insisted De Gea would only be sold for big money, former Red Devils defender Ferdinand accepted the goalkeeper would probably seal a move.
“If I was a betting man, after today’s antics, I’d say yes,” Ferdinand said.
Ferdinand added United would still need to sign a top goalkeeper to replace De Gea if the Spaniard does move to Real Madrid.
“Any teams that win things, they have graet goalkeepers: Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar. They have to do that here and that’ll take time,” Ferdinand continued.
United face Aston Villa in their next Premier League game.
