Man United transfers: Schalke deliver Julian Draxler update
Schalke play down the chances of Julian Draxler leaving the Bundesliga club before Tuesday's transfer deadline
Schalke have poured cold water on reports linking Manchester United with a bid to sign Julian Draxler before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The Red Devils are reported to have joined the race for the Germany playmaker’s signature in recent days as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his squad before the close of the transfer window.
Arsenal have also long been linked with a bid to sign the 21-year-old from the Bundesliga outfit.
However, Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt has insisted that neither the player or the club are considering the possibility of Draxler leaving the Bundesliga side this summer.
Heldt also addressed reports that former Chelsea man Andre Schurrle was unhappy at the German club.
Heldt is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “Both Julian and Andre were more surprised than anyone to hear these reports.
“Julian has vehemently denied having uttered anything even remotely like that [comments that he wants to leave].
“As for Andre and the handshake, it was a very normal gesture after a substitution.
“Also, he had no ‘tears in his eyes’, as was reported.”
Draxler has already scored one goal in three German league appearances for Schalke so far this season.
The Premier League transfer window closes at 18:00 BST on Tuesday evening.
