Man United transfers: Sergio Ramos delivers Red Devils blow
Manchester United target Sergio Ramos puts pen to paper on a new five-year deal with Real Madrid
Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their search for a world-class defender after Sergio Ramos agreed a new five-year deal with Real Madrid on Monday morning.
The Spain international has been heavily linked with a move to the 20-time English champions throughout the summer as Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen his options in defence.
Real Madrid have been chasing United’s player of the year De Gea relentlessly over the past 12 months, but the Red Devils reportedly wanted Ramos to move to Old Trafford in part of any deal for the goalkeeper.
However, the World Cup winner has opted to extend his stay in the Spanish capital until 2020, ending United’s interest in the Madrid centre-half.

United also look set to miss out on Argentina and Valencia centre-half Nicolas Otamendi, who looks set to join their bitter rivals Manchester City in a €40m deal this week.
