Man United’s Daley Blind: Matter of time before Memphis Depay scores
Manchester United defender Daley Blind defends compatriot Memphis Depay after 1-0 win against Aston Villa
Daley Blind says Manchester United signing Memphis Depay will blossom into a prolific goal-scorer despite a subdued start to his Red Devils career.
The Netherlands international wasted a brilliant chance to open his United account in their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park last night.
He’s just got to keep going, he tries very hard and the goals will come for sure
Depay failed to trouble Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in a 1-0 win on his debut on the opening day of the Premier League season.
But United defender Blind, who scooped the man-of-the-match award at Villa Park, defended his compatriot.
“I think it’s a matter of time for Memphis. You’ve seen how much quality he has and how strong he is,” Blind is quoted as saying by United’s website.
Blind added: “We can see some nice things from him. He’s just got to keep going, he tries very hard and the goals will come for sure.”
Depay scored 22 goals in 30 appearances in PSV Eindhoven’s Eredivisie title-winning season.
The 22-year-old moved to United in a £25m move fro the Dutch champions in May amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Netherlands forward will have the chance to score his first United goal against Club Brugge in their Champions League play-off on Tuesday night.
