Man United’s Memphis Depay will embrace No7 pressure, says Bryan Robson
Manchester United legend Bryan Robson says Memphis Depay is a confident lad capable of shining in No7 shirt
Bryan Robson says Manchester United midfielder Memphis Depay will be able to cope with the pressure of wearing the number seven shirt.
The Netherlands international has failed to score in his opening two Red Devils games after victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
Memphis is only a young lad so it’s going to take a little bit of time for him to settle down. It looks like he’s got great attributes and he could do really well for us
Depay completed a move to United from PSV Eindhoven in a £25m deal fresh from scoring 22 goals in 30 games in their title-winning season in Eredivisie.
And former United captain Robson reckons the seventh occupier of the club’s number seven shirt in the Premier League era can enjoy a successful Old Trafford career.
“I think he’s a confident lad,” Robson told United’s website. “He’s got great ability and great pace. So I don’t think that’s going to be a hassle to him, otherwise he wouldn’t have accepted the no.7 shirt as soon as it was offered to him.
“I think if he had a problem, mentally, handling the pressure that comes with the no.7 shirt, he would have said ‘no’ and asked for another number. So I’m sure and would hope he will enjoy playing for Manchester United, relax and play in the way he wants to play.

The Netherlands international wasted a brilliant chance to open his United account in their 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park last night.
He’s just got to keep going, he tries very hard and the goals will come for sure
Depay failed to trouble Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in a 1-0 win on his debut on the opening day of the Premier League season.
