Memphis Depay lands number seven shirt at Man United

Memphis Depay will wear the number seven shirt at Manchester United following Angel di Maria's departure to PSG

Memphis Depay has been handed Manchester United’s iconic number seven shirt following the departure of Angel di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain this week, the Red Devils confirmed on Friday.

The Netherlands international takes the number previously worn by the likes of David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo following his transfer to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, David De Gea retains the number one jersey despite the speculation linking the Spanish goalkeeper with a transfer to Real Madrid this summer and Louis van Gaal saying he won’t start Saturday’s opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

Summer signing Bastian Schweinsteiger will wear the same number 31 he used at Bayern Munich, with Marouane Fellaini taking on the number 27 shirt to allow the German his favoured jersey.

New recruits Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian will wear number 28 and number 36 respectively, the same shirts they were handed during United’s pre-season tour of the USA.
